Lab Spaces for instructors
See every group's fits while the lab is still running.
Put one code on the whiteboard. Each group's saved fits appear in your list as they work, and the fits they hand in are waiting when the lab ends. Students need no account.
A 77-second silent tour with on-screen captions. The chapters below describe each step.
-
Enter the course, section and a name. Instructor and TA names are optional. The new Lab Space gets a six-character code.
-
Write it on the whiteboard, or send the link or QR code. Students need no account.
-
Each group adds its name and confirms. Its saved fits are shared with you, and a banner shows which Lab Space it joined.
-
Each group's latest fit comes first, and the list refreshes on its own. Open any fit as a full Browser Report.
-
Groups hand in the fit they want you to see. It appears under Handed-in Fits.
-
New joins and hand-ins stop. Everything already shared stays available.
For students
Students always know what you can see
Before they join, the dialog shows the Lab Space's course, section and instructor, and tells them plainly:
Your saved fits in this session will be visible to the instructor.
- A banner keeps the Lab Space and group name in view, with Edit and Leave.
- Unfinished entries stay in the student's own session. You see the fits they save.
- Hand In This Fit is optional, and a group can hand in more than one fit.
- Leave starts a new, unjoined session. The old session and its links stay available to them.
The fitting
Every report rests on careful fitting
A fit in a Lab Space is an ordinary curve.fit fit. When students give uncertainties in x and y, curve.fit uses orthogonal distance regression, so each point is weighted in both directions. Parameters come with 1σ or 95% intervals, and residuals carry their error bars.
Open any group's fit as a Browser Report, with its plot, residuals and full-precision tables.
Questions
What instructors ask first
Do students need accounts?
No. Students join from their curve.fit session with the code or the invitation link. There is nothing to install, and curve.fit runs in any modern browser.
What exactly can I see?
The fits saved in each joined session, listed by group, each with a Browser Report. Unfinished entries stay in the student's session. Handed-in Fits shows the fits groups marked for you.
How large can a lab be?
A Lab Space holds up to 1,000 sessions, and you can keep up to 100 Lab Spaces, archived ones included. Lists longer than 100 sessions continue on the next page.
Can a group rename itself or leave?
Yes. Edit changes the group name, or moves the session to another Lab Space with a different code. Leave stops later fits being listed and starts a new, unjoined session.
What happens when I close or delete a Lab Space?
Closing stops new joins and hand-ins while existing sharing continues, and you can reopen it at any time. Archive hides a closed Lab Space from your list. Delete removes the Lab Space without deleting anyone's scientific work.
How do I get an instructor account?
